Apparently BlackBerry babies are becoming more common. If you were watching 60 Minutes on the 10th you might have seen a baby using her parent's BlackBerry.
The story was about working 24/7. Technology is supposed to make things easier for us, but instead we take work with us every where we go. Even the babies.

Starting on January 22nd New Yorkers should be able to bet on horse races using the internet, which includes mobile phones.
Sona Mobile has already worked out a deal with the New York Racing Association to work on their website. Sona Mobile wants to be able to use their software to allow betting from cell phones.
Sona wants to have an application to be downloaded on your BlackBerry that would allow you to connect to the racetrack's website and get live updates, even video. Although the updates and video may cost extra.

The media campaign changing Cingular to AT&T starts on Monday. This includes the stores and websites as well.
AT&T will be using some co-branding to begin with and include some familiar Cingular stuff at first, such as the Raising The Bar phrase.
The announcement doesn't say when the Cingular name will be gone, but does imply it will be gone once all the legal changes are made and customer awareness of the change is high.
Be prepared to see AT&T on your bill in the upcoming months instead of Cingular.

Boxwave's Armor Case for the 8700 is a good case to keep your BlackBerry safe.
Pros - It is a hard case that should be able to help protect your BlackBerry
Cons - The keys around the edges can be harder to get to, as well as the escape button. There is no sleeper function.
Price - $29.95 via
Boxwave website
Rating - 4 of 5 stars
This is a very solid case. I had no trouble slipping the BlackBerry in the case. It fits snugly, but doesn't seem to be too tight. There is black foam lining the inside to protect the Blackberry from scratches and ensure a snug fit.
The clip is removable. It screws into the back of the case so if you want to be clip free there is not a knob on the back for the clip to hook on to.

Did you wonder what someone from RIM had to say about the BlackBerry in now-former Florida Governor Bush's portrait?
Well there is an answer. National Post reporter Emily Mathieu sent Jim Balsillie an email asking for an interview to get his input on the portrait.
She did not get an interview, but she did get an email.
Balsillie was honored and commented that the US government is RIM's biggest customer. He also sent the message from his BlackBerry.

Surfing
Pinstack today I came across a post about problems trying to download updates from T-Mobile.
So I had to check it out for myself. Oddly enough the website seems to have forgotten what BlackBerry I have. Once I took care of that and went to check out the updates I received the same error message.
Apparently this has been going on for a few days now. Some Pinstackers are hoping this is a sign that OS 4.2 for the 8700 will be coming out.
Anyone else having troubles?

I came across a story in the Ottawa Citizen this morning I had to share.
Jim Watson is pitching his idea to RIM. He wants a pedometer built into his Blackberry.
It makes a bit of sense for those of us who worry about our health. Why carry a pedometer on one hip and a BlackBerry on the other if you can have the two together.
The story says officials at RIM have not discounted the idea of adding a chip that measures how much a person walks, but they are not committing to it either. According to a reply Watson received RIM has investigated the possibility.
Watson wants BlackBerry users to remember to exercise.
I am not sure if I would get a lot of use out of a BlackBerry pedometer personally. What do you think?

Do you bring your BlackBerry to the bedroom with you? I know I do, and so does my husband.
Well, the people who worry about people say that's bad. Taking my BlackBerry to bed is like sleeping with my entire address book and a few spammers. I don't think I would be getting much sleep if that were literally true.
The point is we aren't all using technology to free ourselves from the office. Instead we carry it around with us everywhere, including the bedroom. And this is not healthy.
I don't notice it as much personally. My BlackBerry is personal and only gets used for work on a few occasions. Has your BlackBerry hindered your personal life?

Funrungames.com's SudoContest is fun and free, but it still has at least one bug.
Pros - You can see where you rank against others and compete for a cash prize.
Cons - The load can be slow and I repeatedly received an error message.
Price - Free via
SudoContest Website or via
HandangoRating - 3 of 5 stars
The game was an easy over the air download from the SudoContest website. You can also download to your PC via Handango.
The program loads a little slow compared to other games. There is also the advertising thrown in, which for the most part isn't that bad. The screens that show the game is loading will have a text ad for something you can see while you wait.

After it seemed a given that Cisco was going to let Apple-maybe even transfer to Apple- rights to use the Cisco-trademarked iPhone for the new device Apple CEO Steve Jobs debuted yesterday...
Cisco Systems Inc. now says it is suing Apple in federal court over Apple's use of Cisco's registered iPhone trademark.
Cisco has owned the trademark on the name "iPhone" since 2000, when it acquired InfoGear Technology Corp., which originally registered the name.
Cisco's Linksys division put the trademark to use all of three weeks releasing an Internet-enabled phone called "iPhone" for VoIP calls.
I think the fact that Apple released the iPhone just three weeks later is probably contributing to the animus here.
"Cisco entered into negotiations with Apple in good faith after Apple repeatedly asked permission to use Cisco's iPhone name," said Mark Chandler, Cisco senior vice president and general counsel, in a statement. "There is no doubt that Apple's new phone is very exciting, but they should not be using our trademark without our permission."
Cisco is seeking injunctive relief to prevent Apple from copying Cisco's iPhone trademark.
"Today's iPhone is not tomorrow's iPhone. The potential for convergence of the home phone, cell phone, work phone and PC is limitless, which is why it is so important for us to protect our brand," Chandler added in his statement.

BlackBerry Cool has just posted an interview wit Boy Genius.
BG says that he thinks iPhone has set RIM back three years.
I have a link to the post below, but as of the time I am making this post BBCool seems to be down.
Update: up now.BBCool: I guess time will tell...Do you see the iPhone "killing" the BlackBerry?
It depends how that question is asked, "do you see the iPhone killing the BlackBerry in the consumer area, or in business or both". Look on your site under the iPhone article, i think 11 out of 12 people said they are jumping ship from a 'Berry to the iPhone. Those are real users, real people. And I couldn't agree more. RIM just lost 3 years. You hear that Mike (Laziridis, RIM co-CEO)??
You just lost 3 years. You hear that Jim (Balsillie, the other CEO)??
Well, no one every accused BG of being closed-mouthed.

The Irish Examiner reports today that Renee Zellweger doesn't want to lose her BlackBerry again.
I mean, who would?
Zellweger, one of the first celebrities to use a BlackBerry, uses it to record her feelings and thoughts. She is described by the Irish Examiner as not wanting the tabloid publicity that might ensue if she lost her trustworthy BB.
"That was a terrible 10 minutes," Renee said, apparently referring to the "holy (I'm a polite guy) moment that in which she realized her BlackBerry was lost.
From reading the article we don't know whether that original BlackBerry was misplaced, and then recovered. Heck we don't even know the model number.
