On Tuesday, wireless enterprise solutions developer Flowfinity Wireless Inc., announced the availability of French support in its wireless smart client (the Flowfinity Client) for BlackBerry/.

Now, all menus and on-screen user prompts are also available in French.

Given that French is one of the two national laguages in BlackBerry-maker Reearch In Motion's home country of Canada, this is not an insignificant development.

Flofinity terms the significance in two ways:

1. In Canada, companies or government organizations can now access and use Flowfinity Applications in the official language of their choice.

2. Companies in France, whether headquartered there or with branch offices of multi-national companies doing business there, can now use Flowfinity Applications in French.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

BeamBerry Now Available For Your BlackBerry

What is BeamBerry?

BeamBerry Solutions allow you to print, view, and store email attachments with your BlackBerry.

There are three parts, BeamView, BeamPrint, and BeamDisk.

BeamView lets you view pdf and office documents right on your BlackBerry, and even works on older BlackBerrys.

BeamPrint lets you print documents from your BlackBerry on a bluetooth printer.

BeamDisk allows you to save your attachment in folders just like you do on your PC.

Best of all right now you can try the program out for free. This was based on comments made at CES.

I just came across a post on Pinstack that might suggest that Slingbox is interested in BlackBerry support.

N8DBB was checking out what jobs Slingbox had open on their website. Sadly there was no posting for RIM developer, but something to make BlackBerry owners who have a Slingbox get interested.

Dated January 12th and under the title of Senior Quality Assurance Engineer there is a rather large description of what Slingbox wants.

The interesting part is under Job Specifications/Requirements. It says testing and managing mobile device lab (Windows Mobile, S60, Palm OS, JavaME (J2ME), RIM, BREW) is a plus.

RIM makes the list, which means they are at least thinking about giving BlackBerrys some love.

What do you think?

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Happy Birthday Opera Mini!

Can you believe that Opera Mini browser has only been around for a year?

Of course Opera Mini has gone through some changes over the past year. Google is no longer the default search engine, Yahoo is. We have even had a beta, and a new version with bells and whistles.

According to Opera Mini's birthday site over 10 million people have tried it. I know I am one of them.

As a BlackBerry user Opera Mini is best at loading the websites that the BlackBerry browser can't, like My Space.

If you have an idea for an original birthday card send it in to Opera. Opera will post the top 5 and the first 1000 entered will get an Opera wrist wrap.

Click on the Read link to check out Opera Mini's birthday page.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Slingbox Not Expected To Work On BlackBerrys Anytime Soon

I have been asked a few times and come across questions about Slingbox support on BlackBerrys on Pinstack. I just came across a blog that mentions asking about BlackBerry support at CES.

Slingbox advised they are aware of consumer interest, but the blogger could not determine if there was something being tested or not.

What is known is Slingbox is beta testing Palm and Symbian versions. What is up with the lack of BlackBerry love?

Slingbox gives you control of your TV using the internet, either a PC or a mobile phone with its software on it. All you have to do is call their number and you can listen to a variety of podcasts.

If you want to personalize your selection you can sign up for an account which requires your phone number and email. Then when you call in you can listen to the programming you want.

And it works even if you call in from another phone. You just have to enter in your password.

This will use your phone minutes, not data. However if you have MyFaves on T-Mobile you can set the FonPods number as a favorite and all the calls will be free.

Let us know what you think if you try it out.

Read | Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

RIM takes "the Lotus position"

At the Lotusphere show in Orlando yesterday, BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion demonstrated several new software and services compatible with IBM Lotus Samtime's IM and collaboration package, and with Lotus Domino as well.

These are Convert to Call, Click to Map and Domino Discussion and Databases.

I know you won't want to start your day without knowing the basics of each, so come along now, would'ya?

Convert To Call- This new functionality allows users engaged in an instant messaging group chat to instantly convert their text-based discussion into a multi-party conference call, which is initiated and managed through the enterprise PBX or a conference server. "Convert to Call" works through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to seamlessly collect the presence information of each user from Lotus Sametime, then invokes the enterprise PBX or conference server to initiate outbound calls to each user, pulling them together into a voice conference. When the conference call ends, the users are automatically returned back to their group chat session exactly where they left off. Users benefit from the convenience and efficiency of the automated process and enterprises can achieve significant economic and administrative benefits from the least cost routing and centralized management.

Click To Map- This feature will allow users to generate maps on a BlackBerry handset within the context of a Lotus Sametime session. The "Click to Map" feature will launch BlackBerry Maps from within the Sametime client software and generate a map that illustrates a colleague's location based on presence information retrieved from Lotus Sametime.

Domino Discussion Databases- RIM has developed a set of optimized BlackBerry interface templates with design elements to improve the usability for mobile workers. In addition, RIM provides a WSDL (Web Services Description Language) enabling the mobilization of standard Lotus Domino Discussion databases using the BlackBerry MDS Studio rapid development tool. With BlackBerry(R) MDS Studio, the interface design elements can be visually dragged into position to create an optimal user interface on a BlackBerry handset.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ascendo Photos V2.6 Now Available

Ascendo just announced over on Pinstack there is a new version of Ascendo Photos now available, version 2.6. You can also download to your PC via Handango.

The program loads a little slow compared to other games. There is also the advertising thrown in, which for the most part isn't that bad. The screens that show the game is loading will have a text ad for something you can see while you wait. The interface took a little getting used to. I had to play one game board to figure out how to move around. The oddest part was having to hit the alt key when typing a number in order to place it in the box.

I was able to see where I stood for the top times without any problem. Looks like I will not be getting any money.

The biggest problem with the game was the same error message, shown below, that would pop up multiple times before the game would work again.

After I submitted my score I had to restart the game to get a new board, a little annoying on its own.

When I clicked OK I was taken to the full screen ad below. Regardless of what I would do I would get kicked out and receive the error message Uncaught exception.

This would go on for a few tries every time I opened the game, then I would open it and be back at the main screen where I could go on to pick a game. This happened at the end of every game.

I would like to see the error message go away. I would also like to see the ability to play multiple games without having to restart the application. These changes would make this a great game and there would probably be a lot more people playing.

Read | Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

RealDice Backgammon - A Great Idea, Needs A Little Work

RealDice's Backgammon is a great idea, but it still needs a little work to get the bugs out.

Pros - You can play online against other people.
Cons - Very jumpy application.
Price - $15.00 via RealDice Website or $14.95 via Handango
Rating - 3 of 5 stars

When I went to the wap site to try and download Backgammon, it worked from my BlackBerry browser. I was very glad to see this. I downloaded over the air from the website, but you can also download on a PC at either the Real Dice website or Handango.I liked this game better than RealDice's Sudoku. The interface worked better, although I found it hard at first to turn the sound off.

Instead of being an option off the main menu it was off the menu inside the game. I had to hit every key on the BlackBerry to figure out how to get the in game menu, normally the escape key does the trick, but in Backgammon it is the space bar.

Once I figured that out, the rest was easy. Like other RealDice games you often have to use alt and the scroll wheel to move around inside the game.

The biggest problem I had was again the jumpy interface. When I did have the game menu up and was trying to turn the very annoying sound off not only was the response slow but the menu would vanish for a moment and I would see the game board. It took a lot more time to turn off than it should.

The only time I found the game slow to open up was when I first started it up.

I had no trouble logging in and connecting to the internet games.

The jumpy interface and slow response to the keys can make it hard to play the game. I think the concept RealDice has is awesome, but the games just need a little more love from the developers to work better on BlackBerrys.

Read | Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Upgraded Antair BlackBerry spam filter available on Handango

Well, it should come as no surprise that we are starting to see anti-spam filters for BlackBerry.

I mean, only a matter of time before the spam mills discovered mobile devices, right?

Antair Spam Filter 1.3 lets you adjust filters for the strength of anti-spam protection you want on your BlackBerry.

I'd choose Normal. Strong, and you might get some false positives. That's when non-spam gets caught in the filter and when the person you sent you that like totally legit email pings you with "did you get my email," and then you see it is in your junk email.

From developer Antair Corporation, the Blackberry flavor of Antair Spam Filter costs $49.95. Club Handango Members pay $44.95.

Clicking Read below this post will get you to Handago.com's Antair Spam Filter order and download page.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
