A pull-down menu that leads to a page for the white BlackBerry Pearl.

Coming real, real soon.

Now let's look at this image.

If Rogers has gone this far insofar as including a support page for the white Pearl, I'd have to say the device will be available any day now.

$3 a month for the Rogers NewsClip (shown at right) news alert service, when he already has a mobile RSS reader that feeds him the same news for free;

75 cents an answer for AskMeNow when most of the questions are Google-able;

bbTV: "stale news clips for ..$5 a month;

Mindit Assist: $20 a month for software that lets you customize responses to emails and other communication. He thinks this should be a one-time load, not a subscription-based deal.

Sales Anywhere. Alec says that he envisions sales reps dependent on Salesforce.com might find value in this $25 a month service.

Doesn't work for him, though.

Me either.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Tech blogger likes Pearl camera, and takes pix to prove it

Filed under: Rogers Communications, Fun, Pearl 8100, Blackberry Multimedia
My blogger colleague Alec Saunders is out with a real thorough review of the Rogers BlackBerry Pearl.

Likes:

The Pearl's size, and the fact that it is small enough to fit into your pocket. "Also, RIM will be implementing additional enhancements to BIS in upcoming releases to further reduce the amount of SPAM messages."

The letter then goes on to say that this update to the BIS Anti-SPAM solution will be based on a Reputation Scoring System, and will require no end-user interaction, acceptance, or configuration by customers. There will be no charge for the Anti-SPAM solution on BlackBerry Internet Service.

Gexxy has also provided the text an FAQ that was included with the letter.

While we tend to avoid cut-and-paste jobs here like the plague, I think you will agree with me this new anti-spam policy is important enough to justify us replicating Rogers' FAQ about the subject.

S here goes:Q. What is SPAM?
A. SPAM is unsolicited e-mail on the Internet. It is a form of bulk mail that is sent to a large number of users belonging to a distribution list. To the receiver, it is generally unwanted and is considered as junk mail.

Q. How does the Anti-SPAM feature work on BIS?

A. The Anti-SPAM solution will be based on a Reputation Scoring System, and requires no end-user interaction, acceptance, or configuration by customers. There is no charge for the Anti-SPAM solution on BlackBerry Internet Service. Please NOTE: The Anti-SPAM on BIS only works with customers who have activated the optional @rogers.blackberry.net email account. BIS Anti-SPAM does not filter other email accounts such as POP3/IMAP, Yahoo!, Rogers Yahoo!, MSN, Gmail, etc. Customers will still need to configure their anti-SPAM settings with their 3 rd party ISP and email services to reduce any SPAM messages being delivered to their BlackBerry devices or desktop email client.

Q. Why is this happening only to @rogers.blackberry.net email accounts?

A. BIS Anti-SPAM for the @rogers.blackberry.net email accounts does not provide any end-user SPAM configurable settings. This is to make sure that legitimate email is not automatically blocked and will be delivered to the Inbox. BIS does provide end-users with the ability to setup up email filters so only email from approved senders will only be delivered to a customerâ?Ts Inbox. However, other POP3/IMAP services may provide anti-SPAM filters that allow customers to set their own thresholds. For further details, customers should contact their ISP (Internet Service Provider) or email service provider to find out more about their anti-SPAM settings. If the ISP or email service provider does not filter out SPAM email, these SPAM messages will still be delivered to their BlackBerry.

Q. How much does BIS service cost?

A. BIS is available at no additional charge to customers who activate their BlackBerry with a monthly BlackBerry e-mail plan or BlackBerry Voice & Email Package.

Q. What if a customer incurred an overage charge on their monthly bill as a result of SPAM email?

A. Customers who believe they have incurred an overage charge on their monthly bill as a result of SPAM email may be eligible for a one-time credit equal to a maximum of 1 MB ($5 - $31 depending on the BlackBerry Email or BlackBerry Voice & Email Package the customer has subscribed to). 1 MB of BlackBerry data is equivalent to 500 incoming email messages. Customers may contact Customer Care free of charge by dialing * 611 on their Rogers BlackBerry or by calling toll free at 1-877-764-3772. Please inform the customer they should only contact Customer Care once they have received their current bill. The one time credit adjustment will be processed up to February 28, 2007 .

Q. What does a customer do if they are still continuing to receive SPAM email in their BlackBerry Internet Service inbox?

A. There are two choices for customers. First choice, customers can setup filters on their @rogers.blackberry.net email account. The second choice is to remove the @rogers.blackberry.net email account. The @rogers.blackberry.net email account is a basic email account that is optional for customers. The Anti-SPAM filter on BIS does not provide user configurable settings for SPAM. Customers who no longer require the optional @rogers.blackberry.net email account can remove the account from their BlackBerry by clicking on the â?oEmail Settingsâ? icon or by selecting the Rogers WAP Browser and clicking â?oBlackBerry Internet Serviceâ?. Customers will be prompted for their username and password. Once logged in, click on â?oE-mail Accountsâ?. Next, click on the @rogers.blackberry.net email address. Click on â?oDeleteâ? to remove the account. Customers can also access their BIS account from their personal computer by going to www.rogers.com/bis.

BIS will allow customers to add up 10 POP3/IMAP email accounts. Therefore if customers have another email address that has anti-SPAM, and they are still receiving SPAM email, they should contact their ISP or Email Service Provider to configure the settings that best suits the need of the customer.

Additional information about setting up filters or removing the @rogers.blackberry.net email account is available at http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgecenterpublic/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/8021/270925/Receiving_SPAM_to_Hosted_BlackBerry.net_Address?nodeid=1288260&vernum=0 or customers may contact Rogers Wireless Technical Support at 1-866-931-DATA (3282) for further assistance.

If you have any further questions, please contact your Rogers representative.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Warehouse sale offers BlackBerry Pearl for $99 with three-year activation

Filed under: Rogers Communications, Promotions, Pearl 8100

First, you have to live in Canada.

Last night on Pinstack petroly started a thread called "tmobile data down." Petroly reported that T-Mobile said their server was down. Several other stackers reported similar problems with email and Internet.

Me being me, I tried to load a web page with no problem, and figured it was all back up and running. I was even able to download and install the newest Yahoo Messenger off the BlackBerry website around 2am last night. I have noticed it takes longer to load and pictures are not coming.

I am hearing again this morning that people are having intermittent problems with data and email. People from Tennessee, Kansas, California, Texas, and Pennsylvania are all reporting issues today and last night. My husband is in Iowa and I am in Florida, and we both seem to have data. Sn1p3R reported that Bell, Telus, and Rogers in Canada is also having problems.

My question to all BBHub readers is where are you? Who do you use? Are you working? I am hoping this is not a big problem with RIM.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rogers to be Pearl-y early: next week

Filed under: RIM, Rogers Communications, Pearl 8100, Rumors

Comments by Research In Motion co-CEO Jim Balsillie all but affirm that the BlackBerry Pearl will be available in Canada next week.

That would be in keeping with one of our sources, who gave us the scoop in this post.

The carrier will be Rogers, which RIM had previously announced as the Pearl's exclusive carrier in that nation.

"I'm not suppose(d) to pre-announce another carrier's launch plans next week," Balsillie said, "but I don't think these things will be very long," Balsillie said yesterday. "Heaven forbid that September should end without these things being announced."

Well, it sure sounds like "heaven" won't have "to wait."

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

EXCLUSIVE: Rogers' Pearl may be here A LOT SOONER than October 26

Filed under: RIM, Rogers Communications, Pearl 8100, Blackberry Multimedia, Rumors

The working release date for the Rogers BlackBerry Pearl 8100 was supposed to be October 26.
The announcement is official: The BlackBerry Pearl (a.k.a. 8100) is coming to Rogers in October.

Specific date? No one is saying but that doesn't mean we won't find out.

As a matter of fact we have found out. Can't say where but 'twill be October 26 (not October 6).

Happy talk:

"As Canada's leading wireless carrier and data leader, Rogers Wireless is pleased to be the first to introduce the new BlackBerry Pearl in Canada," said John Boynton, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at Rogers Wireless. "Leveraging the popular and proven BlackBerry platform, the BlackBerry Pearl is the handset for everyone, combining the most advanced voice and data features with multi-media features such as a media player and camera together in a small and powerful smartphone."

"RIM and Rogers have been working together on wireless technologies for nearly 20 years and it is extremely gratifying to jointly introduce another breakthrough product to the Canadian market," said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. "We set out to address the demand from a growing number of consumers for an ultra sleek and stylish smartphone that can also deliver an uncompromising mobile voice, email and browsing experience. The innovative BlackBerry Pearl solidly hits the mark."

BlackBerry service from Rogers Communications was out in parts of downtown Toronto yesterday afternoon.

The cause, Rogers spokesperson Taanta Gupta said, was a cut in the fiber used by networking provider Allstream to bridge Rogers and Research In Motion's mobile networks and routing facilities.

In fact, the Toronto Star's Tara Perkins spoke to several users who were quite inconvenienced to say the least.

One of them was Bruce Drysdale,a public affairs official for Toronto-based nickel miner Inco, Ltd., whose bid for Falconbrdige Ltd. was set to expire last night.

"A public affairs person, in the middle of a (mergers and acqusitions) battle, and your BlackBerry goes down," Drysdale told Perkins.

Drysdale added that to make things even more frustrating, Inco CEO's BlackBerry was on the same network.

Inco's CEO's name is Scott Hand. So, I guess his BlackBerry is his "Hand held."

In what will come as a surprise to virtually no one, Rogers and BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion formally placed the BlackBerry 7130g on sale today. (Note: that link should be active by mid-morning).

Back on June 12, I reported that Rogers posted a BlackBerry 7130g support document on their website.

Not the biggest shock then, to see that documentation followed up by a product page for the 7130g, a page from where you can really buy the device.

Purchase price without a plan, or even with a one-year: $499.99.

Two-year plan gets you a $50.00 instant rebate which drives the price down to- OK, calculators everyone- ta-da: $449.00!

Signing up for a three-year plan and that'll be $399.9.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rogers posts BlackBerry 7130g support page- release imminent?

Not entirely unexpected. After all, there's been a "when will" type of thread on BlackBerryForums for some time now.

But there's a difference between that type of thread and what we see today: a shell on the Rogers site pointing to documentation for the 7130g.

They wouldn't have put the shell up if more was not coming. More, as in, like, tomorrow?

Just a little while ago, this morning a Howard Forums user named raymakers who identifies himself as a Rogers employee posted the excerpt you see from a sales bulletin he has received.

HMM, maybe a BlackBerry cameraphone?

He's asking others for info.

BlackBerry-carrier Rogers Wireless of Canada has just introduced mobile softwaredeveloper iAnywhere's Sales Anywhere for Salesforce.com.

BlackBerry-compliant Sales Anywhere for Salesforce provides access to customer contact information contained incompany databases, and then allows that data to be retrieved wirelessly for display on handhelds.

Rogers is charging $25 a month for a subscription to the Sales Anywhere service suite, which is used by sales typesto coordinate customer data before and after that important sales call.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rogers BlackBerry outages reported in metro Toronto

Traveling so have to be brief, but numerous reports today on the Yahoo! BlackBerry Users Group that BlackBerryservice has been out on the Rogers Network in and around Toronto since last night. Email especially, although PINservice seems to not have been interrupted.

But the very latest couple of posts say the issue has now been fixed and everything is back to normal.

Here's a link to the thread where theseproblems have been discussed.
