BBHub reader Scott Kane is not able to come up with an explanation of why a series of BlackBerrys he has used all seem to totally lose their Bluetooth connection in his automobiles.

"I have had problems with the 7100, 7105, 7290, 8700, and now 8100 all dropping my Bluetooth connection in my car," Scott tells us.

He adds that his vehicle has a U-Connect from DaimlerChrysler factory installed. Not only has it been happening in five different cars and five different BlackBerrys.

By now, the first indications of a failure are familiar to Scott. He says that while the BlackBerry Bluetooth connection is fine and reliable at first, then before long then the BlackBerry starts showing "connection to U-Connect lost."

Removing the battery and then placing it back in provides temporary relief. But do you agree with Scott and me that constantly having to do this is a pain?

"At first I thought it to be the car," he writes. "But now that I've been through 3 cars and countless BlackBerry devices I think the problem lies in the BlackBerry."

Readers, have you had similar experiences?

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Things about IMAP you might want to know

Filed under: Ask BBHUB, Software, Tips

Early this morning a friend emailed me this question:

If you are using an internet (IMAP) account along with BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service), do the messages deleted or marked read or replied get marked read/replied or deleted back to the original IMAP server?

Say for example, would "Read" mail be marked as read/replied or deleted on the BlackBerry. My friend said he wanted to know because it would help him make his purchase decision.

Well, we have some answers.

IMAP Messages deleted on the BlackBerry are automatically deleted from your source mailbox. However, when messages are automatically deleted from the source mailbox, they may be moved to a Deleted folder, or they may be permanently deleted. That all depends on the account type and server settings for your account. But be assured that messages deleted from the source mailbox are not automatically deleted from the BB.

However, it is also important to note that Messages marked as read / unread on the handheld are automatically marked as read / unread at the source mailbox.

You might also want to know about Sent messages.

Messages sent from the BlackBerry are automatically copied to the Sent folder at the source mailbox. For IMAP accounts- depending on the name of the folder where your sent items are stored- sent items are copied to the source mailbox for many (but not all) IMAP servers.

But you do have a CYA. I recommend that you consider it.

If you are unsure about whether or not these messages are being copied, you have the option of using the Auto BCC feature to copy your Sent items from the handheld to your source mailbox.

For more specific info/guidance, check your BlackBerry carrier's website Support or Help section.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Full BBHub posting load soon- and much more than that!!

We haven't had a bad couple of weeks at BBHub. We've been among the first- and in some cases, the first- to bring you details and photos of the BlackBerry 8100 Pearl- specs, pix (outside and inside) and release dates. We've also broken some news about exciting patents that point to some added functionality in current as well as forthcoming BlackBerry devices.

When it comes to major news, we haven't missed a beat. OK, maybe one or two.but hopefully nothing major.

But as you have been noticing our never-ceasing dedication to important BlackBerry news, you may have been picking up on the fact that posting has been a bit light here of late.

To that, I take you into my world of personal relocation from one residence to another. If you have ever been there, I am sure you are well aware of the many demands on time, as well as the pure logistics of getting the move to go smoothly. Tape measures, packing boxes, utility-related arrangements (and a now-solved glitch or three with that).

And for those of you who care to understand, sometimes relocates are not devoid of interpersonal dynamics.

I'm now in my new abode- and in conjunction with the move, I am migrating more than 140 gigabytes of files from my old PC to a new one I have just bought. These moves can involve glitches and workarounds- thanks to my BlackBerry I have been able to stay in touch with our readers.

Me and my techs assure me everything will be cool PC-migration-wise by the end of this week. At that point, it will be full speed ahead with the many, topically varied diet of posts you have come to expect from me each day.

But that's not all, readers. I have been in conversations with some additional BBHub blogger candidates- some whom you will instantly recognize. When we staff up, we'll be adding additional features such as BlackBerry device and software reviews, as well as more problem-solving tips.

Can't wait for you to see what we'll be doing here. Meanwhile, the summer is starting to go- work hard, play hard (but responsibly)!

Permalink | Email this | Comments

What additional features would you like to see on BBHub?

I've been doing the vision thing lately, thinking of additional features we could add to BBHub. BlackBerry Users Group Forum Member destroyether2002 (cool name, no?) posted a message titled "BlackBerry 7290: Accuweather Problem."

Seems that destroyether2002 downloaded the Accuweather weather service to his BlackBerry from a site he referred to as "BlackBerry extras." But ever since he installed the free Accuweather, gets a "-1" symbol at the top of his BlackBerry screen. He even de-installed the utility, but the symbol is still there.

Forum Member Chip Brady responded, asking destroyether2002 for the exact URL of the site he downloaded Accuweather from. Then, Chip added this note:

"I haven't seen this (site)," he wrote, "and the ever up-to-date BB Hub hasn't done a review of it
either."

Well, Chip, thanks. The way to a blogger's feed is through flattery.

Thus, feeling honored and duly bound, I "Googled" "BlackBerry Extras," Didn't come up with anything relevant to the issue.

But then I had an idea: I went to AvantGo, which does offer a free, downloadable version of Accuweather's software, and typed in the term BlackBerry into the AvantGo User Support page main Search Text box.

I then was presented with a AccuWeather-How do I use this channel? link. Clicked to an explanatory article about this issue.

Not sure answered the question directly, but I've included this link directly below this post.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Reader writes us from Iraq with BlackBerry coverage question

Filed under: Ask BBHUB, Support, T-Mobile
Frank Stone writes us from Iraq, where he is currently on temporarily assignment.

Well-traveled in the Middle East, Europe, and the U.S., Frank has been experiencing some signficant service gaps in his T-Mobile BlackBerry coverage.
