CNET.com has published a compilation of cell phone radiation levels, as cited by the FCC.

The levels are expressed in SAR, or Specific Absorption Rate. SAR is a way of measuring the quantity of radio frequency energy that passes through the body.

If a cell phone has rate higher than 1.6 watts per kilogram, it won't pass FCC muster.

Last weekend, I journeyed up to Bellingham, Washington for what I had hoped would be a whale watching expedition.

The evening before I left my hotel for the journey home, I plugged my BlackBerry charger into a wall outlet.

On the morning of my departure I took the BlackBerry out and packed it away.

Two days later (Wednesday) I notice my BlackBerry juice is down to two bars. I get nervous when that happens.

"Uh, dude, where's my charger..."

I call the hotel (225 miles north of my home) and they have it waiting for me. They agree to snail mail it back.

But with two bars remaining, see, I just can't wait a couple of days.

So I fork over $39.99 for a new charger. Which was ready and waiting for me courtesy of the helpful staff at the SprintNextel Store at 897 Ne 25th Avenue
Hillsboro, OR.

And no, I didn't tell them of my toils here. Just good people, delivering good service.

So I offer my props.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

BlackBerry Tech Knowledge Center Doc of Day: BlackBerry 7250 UG

Time once again to pick up on our new BBHub daily feature called BlackBerry Support Document of the Day.

Every week, the BlackBerry Technical Knowledge Center lists their 25 most viewed documents for that week.

Every day, starting from #1, we've been identifying a document on this list.

As to be expected, there has been some shuffling in the rank order of viewed documents. So today we go to #22, BlackBerry 7250 Wireless Handheld User Guide. 132-page PDF.

As I do with most of these specific model guide manuals, I've shown you the Table of Contents. This one, which fits on one screen, is of course, at the top of this post.

Today, Pinstack.com is offering a set of download and install instructions for BlackBerry OS 4.1 on the BlackBerry7250.

Here's a summary of what they recommend:

Back up your data.

Verify you are using the latest version of Desktop Manager. Currently the latest version is 4.1.0.8.

Download BlackBerry OS 4.1 from this link.

Open the file you have downloaded and then run it as an .exe (executable file). This installs OS 4.1.

Delete the "Vendor.xml" file on your PC.

With your USB cable, connect your BlackBerry to your PC.

Open Desktop Manager and follow the prompts. Once you complete the prompts, you'll have installed BlackBerryOS 4.1 on your BlackBerry 7250.

(I guess Greg means the BlackBerry 8700, not the dust).

But then HoFo Member jlsb adds that although he can confirm small dust particles under his BlackBerry 7250 screen, but they are only detectable if you turn off the backlight and look read hard.

IMHO jlsb puts this whole matter in perspective when he writes, "in any case fellas, please remember that this is just a communication TOOL," he comments about BlackBerry. "It's not a status symbol, not a piece of jewelry and certainly not an investment."

I don't think every BlackBerry user would agree with jlsb's "not an investment" remark. It gets better than that. So much better that amc was compelled to start a new thread called Dropped BB - how to replace?

The dog lunged forward on her leash right as I went to answer a call and (the BlackBerry 7520) went
flying along the sidewalk," amc writes. "The good news, and impressively, it still works, the
bad news is that one side of it has major road rash."

Am asks for suggestions on whether it would be best to get new housing (for the BlackBerry, not the dog), or, to paraphrase him -to just accept the cosmetic damage as part of the cost of dog ownership.

Fellow Howard Forums Member BlackBerry Finch suggested that amc look for replacement housing on the ProMobility site at http://www.promobility.net/html/blackberryparts.shtml.

Amc wrote back saying he tried this, but amc said that although taking the BlackBerry 7520 apart and replacing the housing would not be a problem, they were out of the 7520 housing for the time being.

Forums Member spence wrote back that ProMobility sent him a replacement cover for his BlackBerry 7250, and it took five minutes to replace.

So here's the question I ask you today:

If you were amc would you:

Grin and bear it, and still use your damaged BlackBerry because, after all, it still works?
Look for a new model?
Check eBay for a replacement part?
Stop using your BlackBerry and buy a new Treo?
Put your dog up for adoption?

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Some faster ways to scroll thru your messages

On the Yahoo BlackBerry Users' Group,Member shy_guy 324 isn't too shy to ask a question that has perplexed more than one BlackBerry user.

I have a Blackberry 7250," he writes. "Does anyone know of a way to scroll through the list of messages faster than just scrolling one at a time. "There must be a way to scroll a page at a time."

Well there is, shy guy:

"Just hit the enter key to scroll a page down and alt-enter to go up," Jim Harry writes.

"Hit P for previous day, N for next day, T for top of list, and B for bottom of list," he continues. "You can also hold the ALT key while you scroll to scroll a page either direction.
