My friend and fellow blogger Andy Abramson writes of his major hassles getting T-Mobile to switch him to someone at RIM that could help him with problems on his BlackBerry 7230.

Difficulties such as disappeared downloaded messages, buggy attachment reading capabilities, non-functional SMS.

Andy (that's him on the right) wanted to fix these issues because he's planning to get a BlackBerry Pearl and give the 7230 to his assistant.

But easier said than done.

According to the way Andy describes it, he had to go through multiple layers of T-Mobile tech support until he finally attained resolution. For a problem-solver like Andy, he expects performance that is far more concerned with performance, not procedures.

The resoluton wasn't rocket science. It wasn't computer or telecom science either. It was just a matter of eventually being routed to someone who could help.

Keyword, eventually.

"Of course, they didn't know where to have me look," Andy writes of his initial conversations. Time of call almost three hours. Time to cure problem, under a minute.

"T-Mobile, that's an embarrassment and worse speaks to how bad customer service is," he adds. "What's worse is when your customer knows to ask RIM for help, putting artificial barriers in the way only causes irritation and angst, none of which is needed.

"Bottom line if you are a BlackBerry user on T-Mobile ALWAYS ASK FOR A REAL RIM PERSON and avoid the loss of time," Andy strongly recommends. "Gee, isn't that why we buy a BlackBerry in the first place."

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

BlackBerry Tech Center # 6: BlackBerry 7210, BlackBerry 7230, and BlackBerry 7280 Safety Information Booklet

Filed under: Support, Tips, 7200, 7230, 7280, Security

Time to pick up on our new BBHub daily feature called BlackBerry Support Document of the Day.

Every week, the BlackBerryTechnical Knowledge Center lists their 25 most viewed documents for that week.

You'll find information about Antenna Care, operating and storage temperatures (as shown above), electronicequipment that could evoke reception interference issues, dangerous areas you don't want to go to with your BlackBerry, what type of repairs you should not attempt, radio signal exposure risks, and absorption rate data.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Roadpost offers Europe-compliant BlackBerry rental

Filed under: Support, Stories, Tips, 7230, Gear, International

Traveling overseas with your BlackBerry?

If your BlackBerry is non-GSM it won't work in Europe.

Well, necessity is the mother of work-arounds, and services that, in turn, make those workaround easier.

Take for instance Roadpost. This company rent internationally compliant BlackBerry 7230s. The $129 weekly rentalfee ($10 more for each day after the first week) covers unlimited Internet access and email. Incoming and outgoing callrates are based on the nation(s) where you will use your rental BlackBerry.

Also included in the rental fee, you get adapters, a USB connecting cable, business cards for your contacts, and a prepaid courier pack for returning the 7230 when you are back in the U.S.A. or Canada.

Three months prior, that number was 502,000.

T-Mobile's signature BlackBerry products, and the after-rebate prices for all these on the T-Mobile website are:

BlackBerry 7100t- $199.99 (shown above);

BlackBerry 7290- $349.99

BlackBerry 7230- $299.99

T-Mobile's website is still offering the older, black-and-white screen BlackBerry 6230. With a $200.00 discount off the nominal retail price of $249.99, sounds like T-Mobile is really trying to get rid of this increasingly obsolete model.

BlackBerry 7290 and BlackBerry 7230.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

National Tire & Battery offers free BlackBerry

Are you ready to re-tire?

If so, you might be interested to learn about a new free BlackBerry offer from National Tire & Battery.

If you buy any four new passenger or light truck tires, yo'll receive a free BlackBerry 7100t or BlackBerry 7230 from T-Mobile. But unlike many of the branded promotions (tied in with the purchase of a product or service), this one is a straight deal via the Web site of Cognigen Cellular.

This offer requires you to pay $249.99 up front. When your BlackBerry 7230 (at right) arrives, you get a $150.00 voice and data mail-in rebate form as well as a form for a $100 Customer Loyalty Mail-in Rebate.

When your second wireless bill arrives, and if your initial bill has been paid in full, you can mail in the $150 rebate. You'll get your check in 10-12 weeks. The $100 Loyalty Rebate is sent in after six months. That check will take 10 to 12 weeks of its sweet time to arrive as well.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

BlackBerry 7290 vs. 7230: Howard Forums members discuss relative browser speeds

Over on the BlackBerry board at wireless device user community HowardForums, there's an interesting thread going on about the speed of the BlackBerry 7290's Web browser (at right) vs. the BlackBerry 7230's browser.

HowardForums member larob kicked off the thread by asking if the browser on the BlackBerry 7290 is "much better and faster" than the 7230, or if the performance of both device's browsers are more or less identical.

The consensus seems to be that while the Blackberry 7290's Web browser is not all that much faster than the 7230, there is a bit of noticeable difference. Forum member DavidE (veteran technology journalist David English) writes that the 7290's faster speed is not due to the processor, but probably because the 7290 has more memory than the 7230.

"The (BlackBerry) 7230 has 16 MB flash memory plus 2MB SRAM," English writes, while the 7290 has 32 MB flash memory plus 4 MB SRAM."

In case you were wondering, "SRAM" stands for Static Random Access Memory, a type of memory that is faster and more reliable than standard DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory).

Both the BlackBerry 7290 and BlackBerry 7230 are offered by Cingular Wireless and T-Mobile.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

BlackBerry to enter Chile

Filed under: 7230, BlackBerry Enterprise Server, International
BlackBerry service is coming to Chile.

This will happen via an agreement between BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion and Chile's Entel PCS.

The BlackBerry 7230 Wireless Handheld will be the first BB to be deployed on the Entel PCS GSM/GPRS network.

The extension works with Internet Explorer and Firefox.

When you are ready to import a photo from your hard drive to your BlackBerry, open the folder on your PC where your photos are stored.

Right-click on the file name of the photo you want to export to your BlackBerry.

A drop-down menu appears. Select Save Picture to Mobile Phone. Your chosen image is sent from your PC to the Pix2Fone Web service.

The Pix2Fone service will process your request and format the image you have chosen for optimum display on your BlackBerry. (If you are using the Pix2Fone service for the first time, you will be asked to enter the name and model number of your device.

After the photo is formatted, a download code appears on your PC.

Print out the download code, and then point your BlackBerry Web browser to: wap.pix2fone.com.

When your BlackBerry browser calls up that address, enter the download code you received on your PC. The picture then loads to your BlackBerry.

Pix2Fone is compatible with BlackBerry 7100 series models, as well as BlackBerry 7230, BlackBerry 7280, BlackBerry 7290, BlackBerry
