Report: BlackBerry 8900 around mid-year, 8800 quite a bit sooner

BlackBerry Forums poster bbhubnewsfromafar uses his first-ever post on that Forum to tell us that in fact, he's a veteran poster but is now doing so from a new account because he doesn't want his identity to be traced.

He writes that he has some news about the Blackberry 8800 and 8900.

"8800: Due out late Feb, Early March. Cingular Only. No Wi-Fi or camera. Does includes GPS, SD slot. 1400 mah battery. Edge only. All the other 4.2 goodies. Slim form-factor like 8100.

8900: Due out about mid-year. This is supposed to include Wi-Fi and camera. No other info.

2. no wi-fi, no camera, sounds like a very small upgrade. is rim just begging to lose business to apple?

3. Is he saying that t-mobile wont have the 8800 either. I doubt that. T-Mobile couldnt afford such a slip up.

4. I bet the 8900 is the one T-Mobile will get. With it having WiFi built in, I think you'll see that tied in with T-Mo. Maybe even a plan; BB Unlimited + TMo Hotspot access for $30-40 maybe?

6. 8800: I am glad that there is no camera or wifi--wifi eats battery and camera slows the system down. SD slot is much more useful. I cannot find any fault in 8700c, so I believe a 8700c like upgrade is going to be my dream phone. BlackBerry is not iPhone, it's designed for business use, I can care less about watching video, taking pictures or such, I want it to work flawlessly, fast, reliable, stable, responsive, intuitive, which so far only BlackBerry delivers, out of all the smart phones out there (Treo, E62, 8125, etc)

7. I thought the new BB 8800 from Cingular was going to have Wi-Fi, built in GPS, and voice activation.
I just heard the Wi-Fi will not happen... but what about the built in GPS and voice activation?

8. If you go to the RIM website, http://www.RIM.com/ you will a picture of the 8800 on the main page. It explains all the features and such.

9. Yes, it will have VAD (voice activated dialing) and GPS, but again, no Wi-Fi.
