3. I love my 8700, but let's be real here. The 8800 is not much more than a software upgrade than anything else. The hardware is virtually unchanged. I think I'll wait to upgrade when the camera and 3g comes out. And as for the iPhone, the only thing holding me back is the lack of an actual keyboard. RIM better get back to drawing board if they want to compete in the consumer market.

4. gosh, it sounds like people are comparing apples to oranges...or perhaps I should say apples to blackberries.

I would love to get myself an iphone, but as for my company, I'm waiting for the details how to integrate an iPhone into a corporate exchange system (ok...imap can get the mail there) and how to centrally enforce password policies, handheld encryption policies, along with control to remotely wipe the data off the handheld if necessary.

to all those who think the iPhone is everything to everyone, I'm good with that, just address these data security concerns and I'm on board with you too.

7. the iphone is a toy? because it has a music player? in other words, it does more, the interface is infinitely improved, and doesnt have the godawful blackberry PIM. but it's a toy. the best thing for you is that the price will come way down on the 8800 to keep people from waiting on the iphone. and yes i am a long time blackberry user, got the 8700 when it first came out, and will have mine for sale on ebay four months from now.

8. TOTALLY agree with you Gary...I love my 8700, but I'll be right there with you with my BB on sale on eBay at that time. I've been a Mac user for a long time and the support RIM has with Mac isn't anything to crow about. Plus, you just gotta love carrying a device around that is three devices in one. I am weary of one thing though: Battery life. I have to carry around two standard batteries for my BB now just to get through the day. Am I going to be able to do the same with the iPhone (what it's called now!)?

9. I was counting down the days until the 8800 hit the shelves. I decided not to get a Pearl because I was confident the 8800 would be the perfect tool. But now, I am jumping ship, I am going to buy the iphone instead. Somehow the folks over at Apple always seem to one-up everyone. If only the iphone had used a faster data network...EDGE is a joke. I am guessing generation 2 will be perfect and cheaper and quickly erode the competitor's hold on the personal smart phone user aka pearl user. Oh, i am not an Apple worshiper but they do seem to deliver very well on what the average consumer wants...they seem to be a little more in touch with their customers, much more so lately.

10. Is it true this model will get GPS? I mean a real built-in GPS receiver and not like the Pearl that still needs an external Blueooth GPS receiver.

11. This phone is not a dinasaur in any shape or form. The iPhone pretty as it is is still an EDGE device. That is just foolish to create a device when the whole country is going 3G. And by June there will be plenty more devices out as well. Blackberry corporate customers will stay with their blackberrys because they dont have a choice, a BES doesnt work with the iPhone. And I dont see the apple offering any sort of enterprise server for its comsumer designed device. It will be just another phone because corporate america is the one that buys in bulk. It will probably be similar to the razr frenzy.

12. look, i love BB's, but apple has deep pockets and have been in the "computing" field for a long while. their product designs haven't been too bad either.
msft, believed that they could actually put up a fight against the ipod (oops).

if you think the iphone is jsut going to be a qute ipod which, you can make phone calls on, i think you're completely underestimating apple. CNBC has already said that apple's net iphone will be 3G.

i don't believe the first iphone's are going to be anything but a test-- a good ipod. okay phone, which works well with itunes, etc- for college kids to use.

why is apple coming out with 2 iphones... 1 having 3 more gigabites?

my feeling is that apple is targeting everything for the mid-late 3rd to 4thqtr (x-mas). there is no way a $600+ ipod/iphone will be, what we see today. apple is waiting for for a good deal with a solid state memory chip maker, in which you can have your 30g to 60g video ipod with no moving parts (as well as a phone). cool for younger kids.

at the same time, apple will know from the original release, if the screen does work as intended, or if it's a problem. they will also give 6 months for people to come up with new apps for the iphone.

so, i'm guessing that the real iphone(s) will come out for x-mas. one of them will be geared toward 25 and younger, while the other one will be geared toward 25 and up (corporate world). at that point, the BBs will be in big trouble--especially as people are using more and more macs.
IMO, RIM is in trouble. This isn't msft, who screws everything up, it's apple.
