At CES yesterday, I sat in on an eBay-Skype press conference.
Don't worry; I know it was yesterday, but if there was urgent news would have blogged it in real time.
During the Q-A a BlackBerry-related question was asked of Eric Lagier, director of business development, hardware and mobile for Skype.
Paraphrased: "any plans to enable Skype on BlackBerry devices?"
The question was not about workarounds but about pre-loads.
Essentially what Eric said was that with Skype now enabled on the Sony Ericsson 2950 and the Nokia N73, Skype now feels "encouraged" to push for compatibility with more devices.
Eric added that such efforts as BlackBerry compatibility wouldn't be achieved by internal development efforts, but by what he called "a very extensive, network and community of software partners in the mobile space."
He postulated that this network could help Skype "expand our reach so that the Skype experience" would be available on BlackBerry.
He didn't cite any time frame, however.
