The BlackBerry Pearl 8100 will run BlackBerry Desktop Software Version 4.2.

Just a little while ago, the BlackBerry Technical Knowledge Center has just posted the release notes for BlackBerry Desktop Software V 4.2.

Here's what's new in V4.2, as compared to earlier builds:

Added the Media Manager tool, which wil lbe available for use with BlackBerry devices running 4.2 or later of BlackBerry device software. This tool will allow you to transfer files between your computer and your BlackBerry device's internal memory or optional media card external memory. Media Manager also supports file management of internal and external memory, which allows users to browse, add, delete, copy, rename and view non-system files and folders on the BlackBerry.

Don't let me forget to mention the Switch Card Media Wizard, which wil llet you transfer data from one media card to another.

Added the Switch Device Wizard, an application that lets you migrate data from a BlackBerry device, Palm device, or even a Windows Mobile device to your new BlackBerry (the Pearl, maybe)?

The Wizard can transfer all of your existing organizer and message data, including device software and installed third-party apps. Even your BlackBerry Enterprise Server settings can be transferred from your old BlackBerry to your new.

The Application Loader tool has been enhnaced. If you are upgrading from v 4.0 to 4.2, all third-party apps that you had installed wirelessly or via USB are preserved.

And what's more, the Application Loader has a remote functionality that can automatically scan for a user's BES from a list.

The Intellisync organizer data syncrhonization tool has been renamed Synchronize. Its User interface has been streamlined.

One more thing: the Redirector Settings Tool has a new name: Email Settings. This tool now allows Microsoft Exchange users to access message redirection stats from the Email Settings tool.
