A new patent application from BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion appears to describe an "ergonomic clip" that can be attached to the device to improve the ability of a user to fasten their BlackBerry to their clothing for easy transport.
From my read of patent application 20060180621, "Erognomic Clip for a mobile communication device," the clip technology could at least in theory be rugged enough that it could complement or even replace, a BlackBerry holster.
"The invention is directed at a support clip for a mobile communication device, comprising an attachment portion securable to the device; and an elongated portion configured to extend from the attachment portion and along the device, generally parallel thereto; " the Abstract reads... "wherein the elongated portion has at least one recess defined in a device facing surface thereof, such that the elongated portion is spaced farther from the device at the recess than on either distal or proximal areas of the elongated portion relative to the recess, the recess thereby providing a space for at least one finger of an individual. "
