Documents that appear to point to the forthcoming BlackBerry 8705g have just gone up on the Federal Communications Commisison website.
The most substantively determinative group of documents is here. If you note, this series of test results, keyed to FCC ID "L6ARBH40GW," stipulates that key information about the device in question should not be released until September 30.
Yet by matching the ID on the device label to the device ID on the documentation, we are able to tell that this is the BlackBerry 8705.
What's even more interesting is that the first of these two labels listed under the results for this device ID shows "BlackBerry 8705g," but the second- presumably an update to the first label- shows only the BlackBerry 8705.
I think this points to the recent decision by RIM to do away with carrier-specific model letter designations. But since "g" has historically been associated with Cingular, in the 7100 series, and we know that the first multimedia BlackBerry will be released by Cingular in the same time frame, the "g" appended to the 87xx series tells me that this will be a QWERTY BlackBerry. Multimedia? Possibly.
Take a look at both labels:

Now, note the 8705 designation, which may be an update:

This may or not be is the QWERTY multimedia BlackBerry. I harbor doubts, if only because the 8705 designation is so modest an incremental upgrade to the 8700. But the "g" tells me that it is either a Cingular or T-Mobile (a la 8700g) device. Given Research In Motion's reported rethink of alphabetical naming conventions, can't say for sure though that the "g" will survive as a designation.
When I combine all of this information, seems to be pointing to either a Cingular or T-Mobile BlackBerry 8705 release around September 30.

1. Not to dispute your logic as it is true for the 7100 series, but for the 8700 series, g is for TMO, the Cingular model is the 8700c.
