Wireless industry news and reviews site Unstrung is out with a Q-A featuring Research In Motion senior product manager David Heit. The exec is responsible for the BlackBerry Exchange Server platform.
Unstrung senior editor Richard Martin spoke to Heit earlier this week at a wireless industry conference presented by analyst firm Gartner.
Richard asks Heit what's up. Heit spoke a big convergence/VoIP game.
"As more of your desktop phone features become available on your handheld you'll end up using them interchangeably. We're looking at voice-over-IP as a major direction, so that instead of giving an employee a desktop phone, you give them a Blackberry, so it's a mobile phone device as well as a secure connection for email," Heit said. "And when you add the mobile application capability we've been talking about, then you're really talking about true convergence. "
Heit then added that in general, BlackBerry is adding new convergence features all the time, "because that's where the market is heading."
