Why don't BlackBerrys have an ALL-CAPS key?

Reading an interesting BlackBerryForums.com thread entitled All CAPS gave me an idea for this post.

"I have a 7100i and can't seem figure out how to type using all CAPITAL LETTERS? I can type the first letter of a word either holding down the letter or pressing the #key prior to typing, no problem," Evangelist writes. "However, how do I type a word in all CAPS? In short, is there a key combo to effect a Caps Lock like on a PC?"

Good idea, Evangelist. Holding down the letter key and pressing cap for every letter of a completely capitalized word doesn't get it for me. And I don't want to drag around a special keyboard for that purpose. I'd like to see an ALL-CAPS key, too.

Would you?

1. On the 7100i, just hold down the key for a second or so and it changes to a cap.

So Alt+Num for typing many numbers and Alt+Cap for YELLING! 8700 rocks!

3. I just boought the 8700 - it is great. However, I am trying to figure out how to configure yahoo mail with this. It will not configure - any help is appreciated.

4. How about alt-caps. On 8700 this does this.

5. no. if there are that many words that need to be capped, then enter those into AutoText.

if you ever need to use CAPs for _every_ word you're typing, then you're just plain yelling.

6. The 7100 definitely needs this, especially when every BlackBerry back through the originals seems to have it... and no, it's not yelling when you get a string of techie acronyms that need typed. It may be annoying, true, but not necessarily yelling.

7. I just discovered the Alt-Caps on my 8700. I thought I was going to be all smart and impressive when I added a comment here...

Oh well, not a whole lot of use for it though, unless you have to type a lot of acronyms... Or maybe you do want to yell at someone...

Also Alt-Num works, this one is really useful if you have to enter in a phone number or a long program version number... v4.5.6.12.6745
