RentSlicer, which is expanding from its Los Angeles-area base to cover the San Francisco metro area, allows users to specify specific search criteria (such as a two-bedroom guesthouse in, say, Sausalito north of SF), and then receive an alert on their BlackBerry when a property fitting their search becomes available.

RentSlicer says their next expansions will be to Seattle and San Diego, with "near future" growth to metro areas all over the U.S.
