Sounds Draconian, but that's what the Traffic Police Department in South Wales (UK-logo on the right) have raised the fine for text messaging on BlackBerry or other devices. The higher fine is for violating the "driving without due care and attention" statute.
According to a story picked up on MobileMag.com, the cops can now stop anyone seen looking down while driving. When motorists are stopped, they will be asked if they have been sending or receiving a text message.
If you're wondering how the cops will be able to see in, they are already permitted to use long-range cameras to peer in on motorists suspected of seat-belt violations. And yes, texting.
