Today's syndicated Dear Annie column offers a plaintive tale from a reader who chooses to identify herself only as a "wife & mother."

Apparently, the letter-writer found out fairly recently that her 45 year-old husband has been emailing his college girlfriend.

"I know because I'm curious enough about his bad moods to go and check his BlackBerry," the aggrieved spouse writes.

Although the emails have only been going on for around two weeks, the content has gotten progressively (or regressively, depending on your point of view) friendlier. Apparently, the old college flame has been inviting her ex-boyfriend to see her, and is signing each email with "big kisses."

"Wife & mother" does not detect any admonitions from her hubby to his old college girlfriend that the emails should stop.

Annie writes back that the marriage has "trust issues," but there may not only be one guilty party. She tells wife & mother that her "constant snooping" is undermining that trust.

Spot on, Annie. Now if the husband was encrypting his emails, now that would be an even bigger breach of trust.
