Well, it could happen. As a matter of fact, it is about to.BlackBerry Cool reports today that a maritime and aeronautical communications solution company named Altobridge has just hooked up and is testing a Remote GSM Solution at an Australian-operated scientific research station on Antarctica's Bailey Peninsula. That's a photo of Bailey Peninsula on the right.
The Solution is comprised of a standard GSM Base Transceiver System along with a remote server which runs Altobridge's branded AM Gateway Platform.
The Solution can operate as a GSM service, both locally and with a satellite network that connects to servers in Hobart, Tasmania. The fact that the Solution is GSM-capable would mean that GSM-enabled BlackBerry devices will be compatible with it.
