From time to time, we like to spotlight hints from the Tips & Tricks section of the International BlackBerry Users Group Web site. One of the newer tips concerns converting the signal strength indicator from displaying in real numbers to bars.
I've always felt that because the bars are visual rather than numerical, they are easier to understand.
If you are in agreement with me and would like to change the signal strength display on your BlackBerry, perform the following steps:
- Open your BlackBerry to your Home Screen.
- With your Home Screen open, hold down the ALT key. As shown in the photo, that's the key at the extreme lower left of your BlackBerry keyboard set.
- Keep holding down the ALT key and type the letters NMLL. Your signal strength indicator will convert back to a bar display.

1. NMLL will not work with the 7100t's that T-Mobile offers, and I am guessing it was a typo for the 7100g that is shown in the picture.
The correct code is ALT NNMLL
It also can be different depending on the BlackBerry model.
Have a good day!
